Several of our housing projects return to the same question: how to share a place while retaining independence. The distance between buildings, the position of openings and the approach to each entrance establish that relationship. The spaces between the houses are part of the design.
In an existing building, attention turns to what is already there and what will be added. A structure, a wall or traces of earlier uses may hold an idea worth taking forward. Working with it means deciding what to retain and how to transform it.
Direct contact with manufacturers helps us understand the possibilities of materials and refine how they are joined, worked and built. This relationship between an idea and its construction informs the development of the project.
Xabier Ramos Bilbao founded the practice after studying at the University of Navarra School of Architecture and working on projects at different scales. Collaboration with architects and interior designers supports a body of work spanning housing, refurbishment, workplaces and public buildings.
